I am Ananya, from Bhubaneshwar. I am a student of Psychology. I started learning Music from Guru Shri Mukund Dev shortly after the lockdown first started.I fortunately got connected with guruji through mutual acquaintances. I must say, I wanted to learn music because of a momentary impulse after watching someone singing with falsetto in a youtube video. I lack the discipline required to focus on music or anything for that matter.But Guruji’s teaching has helped me to a great extent in taming my wild psyche, which has been helpful for my studies as well. Now my purpose of learning music is to condition myself to lead a disciplined life. But this wouldn’t have been possible without my teacher’s kindness as I have been learning music for free, not because I am exceptionally talented but because guruji understood my financial situation and refused to accept fees even after initial insistence on my part, hence the Fuller quotation. Honestly, I couldn’t possibly pay for the lessons for all these months and I don’t have a great support system around me either. So, without meeting guruji I would be like a dwarf trying to reach the moon. Even after all this, guruji allows heated arguments in his class just like any truly knowledgeable and secured teacher would. This is the scientific method of teaching. And he would not just ask you to follow something like an automaton. He would explain the ‘whys’ of his teachings; sometimes even before you asked them, like a mind reader. I would never have sticked with it for this long if this method wasn’t truly useful. He would not use empty, superficial words or waste your time with gibberish but give your real information. I have learnt from other teachers before and I have never experienced anything like this. Even after many lessons in the past I had shown zero improvement. But this time thanks to this teacher, I am getting the hang of it. I can feel the difference. Even my throat feels different now. I feel liberated while singing and it has reduced my asthma attacks. You will not be disappointed if you learn from him. If you don’t, you will miss an opportunity, I swear.

आर्थिक स्थिति ठीक ना होने के कारण मुझे ध्रुपद संगीत सीखने के लिए ध्रुपद संगीत फाउंडेशन से fees consideration मिला , गुरुजी श्री मुकुंद देव से सीखने के बाद मैं अपनी आवाज़ में काफी अंतर महसूस कर पा रहा हू । मुझे संगीत मे लगन है। गुरु जी से संगीत की शिक्षा प्राप्त करते हुए मुझे यह महसूस होता है कि मैं संगीत को समझने की सही दिशा में हूं। मैं खुद को भाग्यशाली और धन्य महसूस करता हूं कि मैं गुरुजी का शिष्य हूं और उनसे सीख रहा हूं।

गुरूजी से संगीत सिखने से पहले मैं यह सोचती थी की गाने का मतलब कोई धुन चाहे वो कोई मूवी के गाने, अल्बम के गाने ही होता है, पर जब सीखना शुरू किया तो पता चला की हर स्वर को पहचानना और उसको महशुस करना ही संगीत है। इसी स्वर अभ्यास से मैं हर एक काम को धीरज के साथ और शांत चित्त से कैसे करना है और संगीत क्या है जान पाई हूँ । मेरे परिबार की आर्थिक स्थिति ठीक न होने के कारण मुझे बचपन से सिखने का अबसर नहीं मिला था पर गुरूजी से जब बात की तो उन्होंने निशुल्क शिक्षा से मुझे सहायता किए। आज मेरे जीवन में संगीत की एक अहम् भूमिका है, और मुझे जो भी संगीत के बारे में ज्ञान हुआ है उसका श्रेय मैं गुरूजी को देना चाहती हूँ।

I started my musical learning with guitar when I was in collage. I love to play many instruments like guitar, tabla, bongo drums and harmonica etc..
One day I was listening some “morning meditation background music” on YouTube. I got a video suggested to “Veena dhrupad instrumental” I listened that video. …a lady was playing an amazing string instrument called veena. The sound of the veena was so enchanting and so soulful. That sound made me enlightened for a while. I closed my eyes and carefully listened to the veena. I was in love with that sound. I started searching about veena more and more. I went to south India to purchase a veena. Then one day I saw a video of Shri. Mukund Dev guruji online. I was so amazed listening his vocal skills.. I decided to learn his style of music from him. I got his contact number and called him. I requested him to teach me dhrupad. Then I had a short musical test by him and got chance to be a student of his foundation.
A great guardian:
Apart from music, he is my life mentor too. Sometime I feel very overwhelming and anxiety in my life…due to too much thinking and creating computer graphics in a tight deadline… I feel depressed and tired. But after a long time work….when I play veena….I feel very relaxed and confident. Guruji Shri Mukund Dev ji always teach me how to take control over my thoughts and to stay calm and inner peace in mind. It helps me a lot to rejuvenate my mind and body…
According to me, “he is a real life Buddha”
I forget all my tangling thoughts and sadness, when I see him and talk to him.
I am also getting scholarship from Dhrupad music foundation for learning veena from him. It’s been a year I have been learning veena in dhrupad style from him. And I feel blesses to be a sishya of him. I want to become a good hearted person first and then ultimately I will reach my destiny with the help of my beloved guru Shri Mukund Dev ji. He himself is a mesmerizing Dhrupad singer. He laid down a strong foundation since the beginning of my musical journey. I found myself fortunate enough to find such a dedicated music teacher in his form. His teaching style is very subjective and motivating. He believes in soulful music. He teaches the basics and nuances of classical music in a very interesting and amazing way. He transforms his knowledge and experiences of Dhrupad not only to me but among all students. I would also like to mention that he supported my musical journey during KOVID times also by not charging any fees during the Lockdown period. मेरा नाम देवांशी तिवारी है , मेरी उम्र 12 वर्ष है,मेरा घर जबलपुर,मध्य प्रदेश में स्थित है ।मैं कक्षा 8 में पढ़ती हूं । मैं पिछले एक वर्ष से (1अप्रैल ‘2020) से आदरणीय गुरूजी श्री मुकुंद देव जी से सीख रही हूं।
मैं पिछले एक वर्ष में संगीत के गुरू-शिष्य परंपरा की सदियों पुरानी ध्रुपद गायन विधा से परिचित हुईं, साथ ही नाद तथा राग के साथ ही साथ सरगम की साधना या सुर साधना के बारे में आदरणीय गुरूजी से सीखा है। पिछले एक वर्ष में मैंने रियाज़ और सुर साधना का हमारे जीवन में कितना महत्व है और किस तरह से हमारे जीवन के प्रत्येक क्षेत्र में इसका महत्व है। हमने जाना है और घर के माहौल में किस तरह से सकारात्मक परिवर्तन होता है मैंने महसूस किया है।
एक वर्ष पहले मैं सिर्फ सुगम संगीत के बारे में ही बस जानती थी। और कुछ फिल्मों के गाने जो मुझे अच्छे लगते थे ,बस यूं ही गा लेती थी।और लोगों को ध्यान में रखकर ही गाती थी, कि उनको सुनने में अच्छा लगे। पहले मुझे सरगम के बारे में कुछ भी नहीं पता था।
एक बहुत ही महत्त्वपूर्ण बात जो मैं शेयर करना चाहती हूं कि पिछले 5 महीने से मैनें COVID-19 के दुष्प्रभाव से उत्पन्न घर के आर्थिक संकट के कारण गुरूजी की मासिक शुल्क भी नहीं दे पा रही हूं ।इसके बावजूद आदरणीय गुरूजी मुझे निरन्तर शिक्षा दे रहे हैं जिसके लिए मेरे पास शब्द नहीं है …सिर्फ यही कहूंगी कि वर्तमान आर्थिक दौर में यह सिर्फ गुरू-शिष्य परम्परा में ही संभव है और वह भी कि आदरणीय गुरूजी के सानिध्य में ही बस संभव है,कि जो खुद इस घोर संकट के समय में भी अपनी परेशानी को हमेशा ही दरकिनार करते हुए मुझे शिक्षा दे रहे हैं….
संगीत के बारे में मैं अपने समझ से कहना चाहती हूं कि यह ध्वनि का कला व विज्ञान है। यह दुनिया की सीमाओं और भाषाओं के शब्दों से परे है….यह मानव जाति के द्वारा खोजी गयी सबसे अच्छी रचना है और मानव जाति प्रकृति की सर्वश्रेष्ठ रचना है….यह स्वयं को जानने का एक माध्यम है और उस परमात्मा को भी महसूस करने का माध्यम है यह भावनाओं से भरा हुआ है ….एक सार्थक और दिल से भरा जीवन जीने का तरीका भी है…… और बहुत कुछ है या यूं कहें कि सब कुछ है……

Myself chintan Prajapati, 24 years old, a native of Ahmedabad, Gujarat and working as a technical support specialist.
I have been learning Indian classical music since 2 years. I have started learning from local music class in Ahmedabad where teachers have done Bachelors in music. which was kind of a tag as i was unanswered when asked about dhrupad and more related questions. i thought i was approaching the wrong person.
while i was exploring the music world, which started with sitar , rudra veena, Khayal and what not. one day i came across raag bhairav recited by Ustad. H. sayedduin dagar. and the journey of dhrupad started from here.
I was suggested a well respected classical singer, Panidt Divyang Thakore, who have been the most humble and wonderful person i have ever met in my life. as i am an ardent listener of Dagarvani, After spending some time with pandit ji, he suggested me to approch professional dhrupad singers like Pt. Uday bhawalkar, Gundecha brothers.
Therefore, I approached late Pt. Ramakant Gundecha ji 🙏🏼. who assigned Guru mukund dev ji as a mentor for me, in this journey of Dhrupad music.
Since April’2020 I have started learning Dhrupad from Guruji, i have not been just learning music but also a path of being one with the universe, understanding the depth of music, how Dhrupad differs from other genere. Guruji also teaches and The Maths, the scientific and psychological approach behind Dhrupad. his style of teaching is based on self exploration and always encouraged to be the original. his dedication towards music always inspired me. his spiritual wisdom and the patience of guruji is on another level. he made it so simple to learn dhrupad in more purest form. Also, the dhrupad music foundation, Guruji is doing the great work helping out promoting and keeping this dhupad tradition alive in it’s pure form!..
I am blessed and greatful to have such a Guru in my life and looking forward to stay in this journey for a longer time.

मुझे सही गुरु और ज्ञान नहीं मिला फिर एक दिन फेसबुक पर मैंने गुरु जी श्री मुकुंद देव जी के पेज से उनका मोबइल नंबर लिया फिर उन्होंने मुझे गुरुकुल बुलाया और आज एक साल हो गया है, में उनसे संगीत सीख रहा हूँ,और गुरु शिष्य कि परम्परा को निभा रहा हूँ, और उनके प्रति मेरी भावना वो मेरे लिए एक संगीत गुरूजी तो हैं ही एक ऐसे व्यक्ति भी है, जिनसे सबसे ज्यादा प्रभावित हुआ हूँ,आपकी विचारधारा जैसे सोशल वर्क, गुरु शिष्य परंपरा आप मेरे लिए एक प्रेरणा हो, और आप से गुरु का रिस्ता तो हैं ही माँ पिता और एक बड़े भाई भी हो, जीवन में आपको वो कभी नहीं लौटा सकता जो ज्ञान आपने मुझे दिया हैं, लेकिन आपके विचारधारा को और गुरु शिष्य कि परंपरा को हमेसा निभाऊंगा,और संगीत में अगर कुछ अच्छा कर पता हूँ, तो समाज के उन बच्चों के लिए काम करना चाहूँगा, जिनके मेरे तरह ही सपने होते हैं लेकिन पैसे कि कमी और पारिवारिक हालात उनके सपनो को मार देते हैं इन्ही शब्दो के साथ अपने विचारों को समाप्त करना चाहूँगा।
